There is an option to set a scaling factor before you can import. 3ds max has also sometimes some axes flipped, there is also a conversion option for that. Not all materials are supported, only standard, vray or corona materials can be imported. If you got problems with a specific file, you can use the issue page on github to upload it so I can check the issues, without the file I can not solve the problem because every .max file is different dependend on version, renderer or plugins.
Sadly I have to rate this add-on as a 1 star as it totally fails scaling when imported into Blender. It also cannot handle complex objects and blows them apart into separate parts. Rotating in Blender is a nightmare as the objects take on gigantic proportions and rescaling individual items inside Blender has no effect. I really, really hope, however, that the developer can sort out these issues because this is a sorely needed add-on that I would certainly buy if it only worked. Cudos to the developer for trying to get this working.
This addon imports .max files as they were saved before and uses the transformation matrix for scaling and placement. Transformations from modifiers and those wich are not applied can not be imported correctly. This addon was tested with over 400 files without problems, to improve this addon I need more files for testing. You can use the issues page.
this add on sucks materials does not get imported very well please improve this add on then i will give 3 or maybe 4 stars
Sadly, this much anticipated extension failed to work properly for me. I attempted to import a 3DSMax2012 file into Blender LTS 4.2LTS on Win10. Although the outliner listed the objects properly, every geometry object was merely represented as a point in the proper location. I had high hopes for this functionality, but as of this attempt the extension is of very little use to me. (BTW - Is there any documentation or support for this extension?)
This add-on has potential, but at the moment, it's difficult to work with. One of the biggest issues is the scaling. Imported models often come in at incorrect sizes, and adjusting them inside Blender doesn't seem to fix the problem. Rotating or transforming them is also frustrating, as the objects can suddenly become extremely large. When dealing with complex models, they often get broken into multiple separate pieces, which disrupts their structure. Another downside is that the imported models do not include materials, so you need to spend extra time setting them up manually. I really appreciate the effort put into developing this tool and hope future updates will resolve these problems. If improved, this add-on could become amazing and valuable.
