It's a very helpful app to quickly import your 3D Max models. I still encounter some issues at times, but overall its very good given the limitations.

It works, even on the Mac. Still a lot to do.

Problems

  • Hierarchies often come in wrong, or some object have wrong scaling.
  • Multiple UVs seems not to work.
  • Materials do not work, also multiple materials per object get ignored.
  • No textures
  • Instances not working

Nice to have

  • Should habe 0.01 scaling by default (Max using inches, Blender meters as core units)
  • Move to collection should be default.
  • Modifiers like SubDivision would be cool to get supported.

Overall a huge benefit. Lets hope it get improved. Would pay for it.

I tried to support multiple UVs but Blender does not support this. Only one of the UV Maps will be used. In .max files also boxmapping and 2d mapping (similar to greasepencil) is stored in 3 dimensional UVW maps, blender only supports two vectors (U, V) thats why only the supported UV map will be imported.

It still needs some work in material / texture importing, however it works flawlessly and it fills a gap, it's amazing, great job!

it works quite nicely for most of the archive I have a former 3ds max user , it may have some problems with new versions I believe but hey , you don't have to install 3ds max in most cases , very excited for updates

In blender 4.2, the MAX file can be successfully imported into blender, but the material texture can't be obtained
