The whale from the cancelled open movie Gold, rigged with CloudRig. (The shards are unrelated) The interface of this character's left arm rig component. The UI of a complex metarig. A pie menu for parenting bones, that also works fine in pose mode. Bound to P by default, and works in Edit, Pose, and Weight Paint modes. A pie menu for selecting bones that relate to the active one, or just by searching for it by name. Bound to Alt+D by default, and works in Edit, Pose, and Weight Paint modes. If any of the add-on's hotkeys get in the way for you, you can change or disable them in the preferences.

CloudRig is a rig generation add-on for Blender, developed by the Blender Studio for our Open Movies, starting with CoffeeRun in 2020.

CloudRig lets you save time by creating helper bones, constraints, and drivers for you, based on some basic inputs. These inputs are provided in the form of a simple armature, called a Metarig. You can learn more about this process on the wiki.

It also comes with some (optional) workflow enhancements, like various pie menus and improved operators.

Another round of mostly minor fixes.

  • !!! *Fix various minor issues with connected Toon Chains of varying parameters. This could result in minor animation backwards compatibility breakage in rare cases.
  • !!! *Toon Chain: Fix rotation of smooth chains being unwieldy in some cases. This could result in minor animation backwards compatibility breaks in rare cases.
  • Fix #570: Asset Pipeline drag&drop not working well with Improve Link/Append functionality
  • Fix #356: Improve Link/Append failing with "Instance Collections" off
  • Exposed default value params for FK Hinge & IK Pole Follow.
  • Improved code standards across the board, which should make the codebase more welcoming, especially for more experienced devs: #354: Tests: Code Quality
  • post_gen:
    • Add set_bone_collections().
    • Expose a reference via rig_obj.cloudrig.post_gen. Easier to grab. Updated post gen example script to use this.
    • Allow passing string (bone name) for Custom Shape Transform in update_widget_properties()
  • *Metarig bones parented to Tweak components will now actually be parented to the tweaked bone.
  • Fix custom property storage selection of Single Control not working - Trying to select a different bone would instantly switch back the selector to itself.
  • Fix Metarig bones parented to Tweak components wouldn't get parented to the tweaked bone as one might expect.
