💬 Chatroom | 🔰 Documentation

This add-on (v1.1.2) is part of the presentation The Missing Camera or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Oblique Projection at BCON24.

Usage

  • Place cursor.
  • Add a Pohlke camera.
    • From the 'Pohlke' tool menu ('N' shortcut).
    • Selecting 'Pohlke Camera' from the add menu ('Shift + A' shortcut).
  • A camera is created.
  • Change projection presets and parameters in the 'Adjust Last Operation panel'.

How it works

  • Axonometric projections are determined by the projected axis angle pairs.
  • Oblique projections automatically modify the X pixel ratio prior to rendering.

References

The add-on is named after Karl Wilhelm Pohlke, author of a generalizing parallel projection theorem in 1853. The cover image is a detail of plate VIII "Palatin" from "L'art de bâtir chez les Romains" by Auguste Choisy (Ducher et Cie, Paris, 1873).

A paper has not yet been published on the add-on, but if you use it in your academic work you can cite it from Zenodo:

What's New

2.0.0 March 12th, 2026

Big thanks to ianb1204 for his hard work!

  • Core changes to source code: complete rewrite of the codebase architecture for better modularity and maintainability.
  • Added alpha & beta angle parameters: users can freely input paper-plane angles (α and β) to define custom projections.
  • Added scale info: dynamic display of axis reduction factors (x, y, z) while adjusting angles.
  • Added automatic camera rotation and altitude computation based on α and β variables.
  • Added projection mode toggle: switch to choose between axonometric (orthogonal) and oblique modes.
  • Added quick toggles between Above (top-down) and Below (bottom-up) views.
  • Added toggle for quadrant (++,+−,−+,−−) selection to orient view.
  • Added live parameter updates with real-time camera repositioning in the 3D Viewport.
  • Added geometry functions: centralized mathematical logic in utils/geometry_math.py to handle complex projection calculations independently of the Blender UI.
  • Added tests: integrated a comprehensive suite of unit tests using pytest to validate geometric functions and prevent mathematical regressions.
  • Added CI/CD pipeline: Woodpecker CI configuration (.woodpecker/test.yaml) to automate testing across multiple Python versions (3.11, 3.12, 3.12).
  • Added documentation: explanation, reference and generated API sections.

I had to make a python script in a .blend file to do that thing and it was less good, thanks so much and long live to you (btw, great graphic appearance for your add-on man)

This is so useful, especially for architectural representations 💯

Great work!
