Nuke Camera & Transform Exporter

The Nuke Camera & Transform Exporter is a lightweight, precision-focused Blender Extension designed to bridge the gap between Blender's 3D viewport and Foundry's Nuke.

Unlike standard FBX or Alembic pipelines that can sometimes introduce scale issues or locked matrices, this tool generates a native Nuke Python script (.py). Simply drag and drop the exported script into Nuke's Node Graph to instantly recreate your Blender Cameras and Empties as native Camera3 and Axis3 nodes, complete with editable animation curves.

Built for modern VFX workflows, this extension mathematically evaluates complex Blender constraints (like Track To, Copy Location, and complex parenting hierarchies) and cleanly bakes them into absolute Nuke world-space coordinates.

Usage Guide

Follow these quick steps to bring your Blender cameras and empties directly into Nuke:

  1. Select Your Objects: In the Blender 3D Viewport or Outliner, select the Camera(s) and Empty object(s) you want to export.
  2. Export the Script: Go to the top menu and navigate to File > Export > Nuke Script (.py). Choose your save destination, name your file, and click the export button.
  3. Run in Nuke: Open Foundry's Nuke and navigate to the Script Editor panel. Open your exported .py file (or paste its contents into the bottom input area of the editor), and press Ctrl + Enter (or Cmd + Return on Mac) to execute the script.
  4. View Your Nodes: Check your Nuke Node Graph! Your Blender cameras will instantly appear as Camera3 nodes, and your Empties will appear as Axis3 nodes, fully populated with your baked animation data.

Key Features:

  • Native Nuke Nodes: Exports Cameras as Camera3 nodes and Empties as Axis3 nodes.
  • Editable Animation Curves: Bakes transformations directly into Nuke's translate and rotate knobs instead of the locked matrix knob, giving compositors full control in the Curve Editor.
  • Coordinate Conversion: Automatically handles the math to convert Blender’s Z-up environment to Nuke’s Y-up environment.
  • Constraint & Parent Baking: Uses Blender's Evaluated Dependency Graph to guarantee that heavily constrained or parented objects export to their exact absolute world positions.
  • Gimbal Lock Protection: Includes a custom Euler filter to prevent 360-degree rotation flips in Nuke's animation curves.
  • Pixel-Perfect Optics: Calculates the true optical sensor size based on your render resolution and aspect ratio, ensuring perfectly aligned 2D overlays.
  • Batch Exporting: Select as many Cameras and Empties as you want; the tool will bake and export them all into a single Nuke script simultaneously.
  • Native UI Integration: Fully integrated into Blender's native Export menu with standard file-naming and increment (+/-) UI features.
