This makes me wanna use the 3D cursor!

great for modeling but for animating, I'd love an option to replace the default "cursor to selected" and/or "selected to cursor", with a replacement that also respects rotation, not just translation.

Hi, thank you for the review! I suggest you trying out a popular add-on - MACHIN3tools, which, among many other usefull features, has its own cursor pie menu that provides exact functions which you are asking for. This was my deliberate decision not to reinvent the wheel and to avoid duplicating features that are already implemented in another add-on, especially one that has been well-known for many years, like MACHIN3tools.

Ability to move 3d cursor with gizmo are super usefull! And now 3d cursor are way more clearly visible on 4k monitors.

This is so cool, to have this addon. Previously i was creating empties for storing locations, now this addon make my life easy.

Very good, very useful. It would be even better if it could align the view when aligning the cursor and manage custom views.🎉🎉

The visualisation is much improved, and the ability to use a gizmo to move the 3d cursor has proven useful too!

Great little addon, thanks! But I found some strange behavior (mesh moving) when using "3D Viewport Pie Menus" extension with your addon enabled. I created an issue on Github about that.

Thank you for the feedback! 1.0.3 is out now, and this behavior was fixed.

This is an excellent addon, the ability to quickly snap the 3D cursor to vertices in object view alone is worth the install. And on top of that, the functionality to use the 3D cursor as the transformation origin, without actually changing the pivot point, It's just brilliant.

Thank you for making and maintaining it!

Suggestions for future versions.

  • Add "reset 3D cursor" to the pie. This way, it will be possible keymap the addon to shift+C
  • Add the option to snap the cursor to the middle of faces.
  • Add the option to snap the cursor to the middle of selected objects/vertices/edges etc
  • Add the option to change snaping targets through short cuts. It would be more effective than having to open the "tweak snapping" between operations. Especially when you want to use snapping targets to position the 3D cursor in a very specific place
  • Add the option to set the rotation of the 3D cursor. Some times you want the 3D cursor to inherit the direction of the normal, of the vertex(es) it is snapped to. But at other times, you want it to retain the rotation it already has. And at other times you want to reset it to world axis. It would be very convenient to change the behavior during transformation with shortcuts. Having the option to reset the three axis separately would make the functionality even more useful.
  • Add the option to snap to the middle of already assigned snap points, for example with "enter" instead of having to left click the final snap point. This would be helpful, when you try to position the 3D cursor in a complex model.

Thank you for the review!

  • That's a good point. I will add it in v1.0.3.

  • For 1.0.x versions, the 'Snap' operator only relies on the built-in 'transform' operator, allowing only custom adjustments prior to calling it. Thus, it is limited to built-in snap options, which do not include face centers or origins and cannot be performed in one step. For now, there are two options available:

    • a. Use the default 'Move cursor' or the PLUS 'Snap' operator (or a combination of both) with 'Add Snap Points' function (called by pressing 'A' and selecting the desired anchor points).
    • b. Call the 'Shift+S' Pie menu and select the 'Cursor to Selected' option in Object or Edit mode.
  • Sure, this is doable. I will add this in v1.0.3, however, it will only work between operations.

  • Yes, that's a good point as well, and I'm adding some rotation related options in v1.0.3. However, it will again be limited to adjustments prior to calling the operator. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'reset the three axes separately.' It would be helpful if you could expand on your idea here: https://github.com/chokavr/3D-Cursor-plus/discussions/categories/ideas

  • Hm, it works for me already. Since it is basically a default 'transform' operator, after you call it, you can select some vertices with 'A', move the mouse cursor away, and press 'Enter'. The cursor will snap to the middle of those points.

I'm already working on version 1.1.0, which will introduce a second/experimental modal 'Snap' operator (heavily inspired by Quick Snap addon by Julien Heijmans). It will provide the ability to change its behavior on the fly with shortcuts: choose the snap targets (including object origins and face centers) and toggle between multiple rotation options. I won't provide exact time frames, but current progress feels promising.

Thank you for the feedback, and stay tuned for upcoming updates!
