This is a little add-on to import an airfoil dat file into blender. Simply click 'Add Airfoil' in the File/Import menu. The add-on currently supports the only the Selig format of dat files which seem to be the most common. A huge variety of airfoil dat files are available on airfoiltools.com. This addon is part of a larger project to provide Geometry Node tools for the design of 3D printed, radio controlled model aircraft. Updated for the Blender Extensions Platform.
This extension does not require special permissions.
Thank you for the submission Ian, I love add-ons that allow me to learn something new :)
Your add-on is approved, but I wanted to give you feedback on UI that might help with it being better integrated into Blender's UI.
Since this is import operator it maybe (also) suited for File > Import menu, people who have not seen the tutorial might expect it there. And if you also decide to leave it in Add menu, I would suggest removing word 'Add' from the title and leaving it just "Airfoil", to better fit with other items in the same menu
Hey everyone,
Just a heads-up about a recent change regarding the licensing of add-ons on the Blender extension platform. Moving forward, all add-ons will need to be released under the GNU/GPL 3.0 license (SPDX:GPL-3.0-or-later). This is mainly to keep things simple and consistent across the board.
Previously, we accepted various licenses as long as they were compatible with Blender’s distribution. However, to avoid any confusion and streamline the process, all add-ons using the bpy API should now be presented as GPL 3 (the same license the Blender bundle is distributed). Regardless of whether the original code was under GPL 2, or something else like MIT or ZLIB.
Existing add-ons versions won't be affected. However, new updates will need to comply to the revised requirements.
Thanks for understanding, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
