Features:

  • Import of Extensible 3D (.x3d) and Virtual Reality Modeling Language (.wrl) files.
  • Export of .x3d files.

Explanation of file formats:

  • X3D files are primarily used for representing and sharing interactive 3D graphics and scenes, particularly on the web, in fields like scientific visualization, VR/AR, education, and engineering.
  • WRL files, also known as VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) files, are most commonly used for representing 3D models and scenes, enabling interactive 3D content on the web, and supporting applications in areas like virtual reality, scientific visualization, architecture, education as well in the field of 3D printing as the most commonly used format STL does not support colors.

What's New

2.5.1 March 18th, 2025
  • fixes (import):
    • color per face is now a separate case again compared to vertex color
    • quotes, backslashes and leading spaces in text objects get parsed correctly, a new mfstring handler got implemented which also results in same results for x3d and vrml
    • IndexedShape Import is more fault tolerant: less points than coordIndex doesn't lead to an error anymore
