Strange Attractors

forked from mtyka's Attractors

This fork is maintained by @7bitretro with some corrections from Spirou4D@laposte.net.

Changes from original fork:

  • Code fixed & updated to work with Blender 3.6 and above
  • TSUCS1 Attractor curve added

Creates a Strange Attractor curve in the 3D View.

A Strange Attractor is a concept in chaos theory that describes the behaviour of chaotic systems. One famous example is the Lorenz attractor, which emerged from a mathematical experiment in weather prediction and revealed an unexpected link between weather, chaos, and fractals. These attractors exhibit fascinating properties, such as points on the attractor being arbitrarily far apart at different times, making their behaviour quite unpredictable.

Instructions

  • Install the extension
  • In 3D View, press Shift + A to add an object and select Curve menu
  • Select Strange Attractors and choose from the list available
  • In the object data properties, play around with the settings in Geometry

Fun add on for exploring various shapes. After extruding and offsetting the curves you end up with wonderful geometries; solidified into meshes various parts can be used for interesting projects. Many thanks to the developer for freely sharing.

Hey! Even though your addon has a few tiny weaknesses, I am very impressed. It was a great inspiration for me to bring a similar, slightly enhanced addon to the "blender market". Something that I developed with the help of ChatGPT in many evenings and nights. 😀 I also have great respect for the fact that you make your addon available free of charge. Thank you for this!!

Thanks for the positive review and best of luck with your product on Blender Market.

My feedback to you would be, that if you're asking people to pay money for your product, then you should be committing to the product and your customers and avoid saying "if you buy it - i can´t develop it further". Some of the most successful Blender Market contributors are those that iterate their products to add value due to the investment from buyers, which is often a key selling point.

Cool, but if it could be edited at any time, it could be used to create some awesome animation effects.

Thanks for the positive review!

With the extension generating a Curve object, have you explored all the keyframing animation options within the properties of the Curve? Things like Start & End Mapping might provide some interesting animations and maybe even modifiers.
